Chilham is a mostly agricultural village and parish in the English county of Kent with a clustered settlement, Chilham village centre, in the north-east, and a smaller linear settlement, Shottenden. Well preserved roads and mostly residential listed buildings in its centre has led to its use in recorded drama.

Visited this room on numerous occasions in the past; during the time of the previous owner and the present owner, who has had this tea room for 9 years.

I once rated this Tea Room as 'Recommended' but dropped the rating to 'Not My Cup Of Tea' some time later, due to the lower levels of customer service and associated issues.

I am back in the tea room following a three year absence. My review today, 24 February 2017 is, as you would expect, an honest review.

I was welcomed by a smiling and very polite waitress who allowed me to sit anywhere I liked. It was busy, but my favourite table in the corner for two was available, so I ordered a pot of tea and a tuna/mayonnaise oven backed jacket potato (see photo). I have to say that this is by far the best jacket potato I have ever had inside an English Tea Room over the past 40 years. Baked to perfection. Absolutely delicious.

Old stalls, church pew style, wooden chairs, old black beams on the ceiling. Simply lovely to be enjoying this English pastime.

Menu also consisted of sandwiches, home-made soup, paninis, freshly baked baguettes, cooked breakfast, salads, large selections of teas and beverages, alongside a nice selection of home-made cakes and treats. The cake stands, incidentally, were covered by glass domes. I love to see this, especially during the summer months and if the cakes are nearer a main door, as these were.

It just goes to show, that if you ever encounter a bad experience inside an English Tea Room, best to distance yourself from the establishment and then return some time later. Today was a real eye opener. I should learn to take my own advice and do just that.

I am more than happy, to highly recommended this quaint English Tea Room right, in the heart of Chilham Square in Kent and well done to Shelly and her team.

Take a visit, Chilham is a stunning place to relax and enjoy. English village at its best.
