SIPPING DISAPPOINTMENT: MY EXPERIENCE AT MADRONA NURSERY TEA ROOM

Madrona Tea Shop, a self-service tea shop that aimed to create a cosy atmosphere, disappointed me on my recent visit.

The stacked paper napkins had dead flies on them, so I threw half of them in the waste bin; additionally, the dirty surfaces detracted from what could have been a very pleasant atmosphere.

Self-service was meant to encourage freedom and discovery, but it was very basic. The self-service area offered only tea and coffee, a jug of milk in the fridge, a covered slab of fruitcake, and KitKats; customers were encouraged to leave their money in a bowl next to the till next and card machine or ring the bell for assistance.

The selection was also lacking for a specialist tea shop, adding to the dissatisfaction. The creative concept of Madrona Tea Shop is admirable, but its execution is lacking, so this experience was not for me, but the building is stunning with a built-in small turret that could be made into a high-class tea room or a beautiful chapel, perhaps both.

A greater focus on cleanliness and client engagement could boost tourist satisfaction, and I think the owner is sitting on a potential gold mine, so to speak.

I made my wife a mug of black coffee, and I had a mug of tea. My wife consumed a slice of the cake, which she enjoyed.

I invited a lovely couple, an Englishman and his Russian wife, who were walking around the immaculate nursery, to come in and enjoy drinks and cake while I pretended to be the tea shop manager. They had the same drinks as us. The man had cake and enjoyed it, and his wife consumed a KitKat. We enjoyed a lovely conversation while my wife Sandra was outside on the veranda, enjoying the sun and waiting to go home.

When we had all finished, I washed and dried up all mugs, plates and spoons using cold water as there was no hot water available and I rang the bell, and the owner arrived in seconds, and I paid for all of us, costing only £10 in total!
