ABOUT HAMSTREET

The village of Hamstreet is situated on the A2070, the primary road connecting Ashford and Hastings, six miles (10 km) south of Ashford. The village is primarily located in the parish of Orlestone, which is named after a much older hamlet that is situated on the ridge of hills, one mile north of Hamstreet. However, a portion of the village is located in the parish of Warehorne.

One of the most significant landmarks in Hamstreet is St Mary's Church. The church is a Grade I listed structure that has been in existence since the 12th century. The church is renowned for its splendid bell tower and stunning stained glass windows. The Royal Military Canal is another well-known attraction in Hamstreet. To safeguard against a potential invasion by Napoleon, the canal was constructed in the early 19th century. In the present day, the canal is a particularly popular destination for cyclists and pedestrians who wish to investigate the Kent countryside.
